Barn Dance is a solo installation at Dream Clinic Project Space in Columbus, OH. The exhibition dates are August 13th - 27th.
Barn Dance is a hole in the wall, a dive bar, a holy space. Through traditional Americana and Western images, queer space is renegotiated and reimagined within arenas not typically accustomed to queer identity. Sexuality, power, and fluidity are explored within this installation. The overall affect in this small space is that of an intimate interaction in the restroom of a bar.
The installation includes “Pleaser”, “Do u wanna come over?”, “Cadillac”, two new archways “Window Dressings”, as well as straw, faux wood paneling, a bathroom mirror, and several small found objects. The audience was encouraged to carve into the wood paneling and write on the mirror in red lipstick.
